This was written a few days ago by my ex, who I broke up with in August of this year. I would not have known this song existed if he didn't want to show it to me. It's the only song I think he will ever write about me, about us, and I guess one song is about all I could be these days. I met him online and broke up with him online, and now we are friends online. And my heart is unaffected by this song, because it can't be warmed right now. How else am I to go on?

In Tears and Rain

Took a train down to see the crescent city moon
How was I to know I'd fall and I'd swoon
Didn't know her face but I knew her name
Wasn't much to lose and we just might have something to gain

We will learn to take time
Spend our dollars and dimes
Tell the truth on this thin phone line
We're trying to believe
In something we cannot see
Letter by letter we'll send home our hope

Took a train down across the Ponchartrain
Where the salt and water mix like tears and rain
In a city where the broken can hide their pain
So much to lose, we'll save that for another day

With some bourbon and some scotch
You rolled back your watch
We'll share Chicago
Dancing so slow

We will learn to take time
Spend our dollars and dimes
Tell the truth on this thin phone line
We're trying to believe
In something we can not see
Letter by letter we'll send home our hope

You took a plane back on the big city's wind
But we both kind of knew I'd never hold you again
Didn't share forever but we'll remember the same
Some things we lose but still others we gain

So, thanks, Samuel, really. It was worth every penny.
