A true statement that sounds very wrong.
If another individual or group is bothering you, you could kill them. Kill everyone in the world and noone would bother you ever again. In fact, you could put a bullet in your own head. Then you'd be carefree.
Mountain in your way? Blow it up.
People just sound dumb and naive when they say "Violence never solves anything." Violence solves just about any problem in signifigant amounts. However, it solves it by subtraction. Instead of adding good, it simply subtracts bad. Subtract enough and eventually nothing exists, therefore there are no problems.
Violence solves anything. Its just that usually its not a good way to do it.
"Anyone who clings to the historically untrue - and thoroughly immoral - doctrine that 'violence never settles anything' I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington, and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms."

- Robert A. Heinlein, "Starship Troopers"
