This, I'm convinced was the great lesson of science fiction in the late '70s. Everyone in the future will be wearing odd futuristic clothing based on sophisticated futuristic fashion sense that our primitive minds can't even perceive. Even their language and their furniture will be so advanced as to be beyond the grasp of our non-future brains. But their hair ... why, naturally they'll choose to keep that same feathered look that was so keen in the age of disco.

Think Battlestar Galactica (remember Cassiopeia?) and the wretched Buck Rogers TV series. Think Logan's Run, with the ultimate hairstyle sex symbol, Farrah Fawcett-Majors.

Who could live with a future like that? No wonder everyone talked about nuclear war in the '80s.

Of course, the philosophy spread to other decades as well ... for example, dig those beehives on Star Trek (TOS). Copacetic!

And before someone brings up Princess Leia, let me remind you that was "A long time ago" ...
