Unable to be operated upon. Typically used in reference to medical conditions in which operating on a patient would introduce too great a risk of death, trauma, or increased injury to said patient.

One of the more ironic concepts in medicine, since it also tends to be applied to conditions which are imminently terminal, making one question the worth of evaluating a possible solution as untenable because of danger to the patient.
