Le Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique / Musique is a French institution dedicated to the study of music, particularly new music. Founded in the 1970s by Pierre Boulez, IRCAM developed into one of the most influential institutions geared towards musical research. Many composers and musicians have studied or worked at IRCAM at one point or another, including Phillipe Hurel, David Wessel, and George Benjamin. Software that was developed at IRCAM include AudioSculpt, Max, and Spatializer.
