Pretend you're not falling if it helps.

The sea will rise around you and

spiral through your hair

(this will feel like fingertips)

This sudden dark

will fold to your exact shape;

it will know you:

your heart is louder under water.

You will no longer need to know days

or your own skin.

With eyes closed

you will forget years spent

with only the air to hold you.

You will forget

that things can be as distant as

the shelter you once kept.

Live all the seconds you can in

this fact of being in water, of filling

a void to fit you, undefined as it was

before you fell.

Think of breathing later,

when the shock of new temperature

is gone--accept this time

your body is giving you

because

on the other side of this water

is only oblivion

or more air.
