(1819-1891). Born in Cambridge, MA, educated at Harvard, a New England Yankee liberal (but I repeat myself), poet, critic, editor and professor of modern languages. Married to the abolitionist, Mary White. Perhaps most well-known in popular circles for his "And what is so rare as a day in June?" which appeared in the Prelude to Part First of The Vision of Sir Launfal (1848). Said to be critically recognised for his satirical The Bigelow Papers (1848 and then 1867).
