A
military organization under the direct command of
Japan's
Defence Ministry. Triggered by military conflict between
China and
Vietnam over the
Spratleys in 2003, it was formed by the
Japanese government which had no military force of its own (the
ground,
naval and
air divisions of the original
Japan Self Defense Force had all been incorporated into the
UN Military). In episode 25' "
Air", under orders from the Japanese government, the
JSSDF committed roughly an entire
division in an attempt to directly occupy
NERV.
