The phrase "Japanese torture trap" is a slang term for the back seat of a "four seat" or 2+2 Japanese sports car. Examples include the Nissan 240SX and 300ZX, Mazda RX-7, Toyota Celica and Supra, and the like. Generally speaking, if the front seat of one of these cars is slid all the way back, the seat immediately behind it is unusable, at least to sit in it in the conventional upright and forward-looking sense. Getting into and out of this kind of seat can lead to hasty unplanned visits to one's chiropractor, and in most cases is further complicated by seemingly senseless seat belt mounting locations. It's too small to have sex in, and too small to just take the seat out because then there's a yawning hole into the "trunk" area, usually underneath the hatch.
