Jarritos are Mexican sodas that, at one time, could only be found in small independently owned restaurants, but are now found throughout Texas and the Southwest everywhere from gas stations to Wal-Mart.

They come in textured glass bottles - pitchers on top of the label and a rough textured surface at the bottom of the label - and they have real bottle caps. No twist-offs here!

Jarritos sodas come in eight flavors derived from traditional Mexican fruits: Fruit Punch, Mandarin Orange, Jamaica (mostly cranberry), Tamarind, Lemon-lime, Sangria, Pineapple, Apple, and Guava (my favorite) and they offer mineral water as well.

They are less carbonated than American sodas, and there is more fruit flavor in them. The taste is strong and can be overpowering at first, but the more you drink it, the more you want to go to the convenience store and buy them all. But be careful! Each 13.5 ounce bottle of Jarritos packs 210 calories - comparable to our American counterparts.
