A rock producer/exec, dating back to before the phrase "rock and roll". At Atlantic Records, he salvaged Aretha Franklin's career by sending her to Stax Records, putting Southern soul music and Stax on the world map. He was the "G" (for Gerald) in BANG Records, who released Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" and The McCoys' "Hang on Sloopy", plus the original "I Want Candy" and a pre-schlock Neil Diamond. He co-produced Bob Dylan's Slow Train Coming, tasty lemonade from a lemon.
