In Oedpius Rex, or Oedipus the King, Jocasta was the wife of Laius, the first King of Thebes in the play, and both the mother and the wife of Oedipus.

After finding out that the horrible prophecy of the Oracle had come true, Jocasta killed herself, and Oedipus blinded himself with the combs from her hair.
