Known as the 'punk poet' John Cooper Clarke toured the UK extensively in the late 1970's and early 80's

His poems were profane, vulgar and very funny.

The best known is probably Evidently Chicken Town, but others had titles like 'I married a monster from outer space' and 'Motorcycle Sluts Part One'.

A collection of his poetry was published under the title 'Ten years in an open necked shirt'

My favourite line from a Cooper Clarke poem comes at the end of one, where he describes being beaten up, by a martial artist - "Enter the Dragon, exit Johnny Clarke" which he used to close his live performances
