1922- Lithuanian born US writer, Filmmaker and film distributor.
He survived Nazi Concentration Camp. After the war he came to the United States to start a new life. He is a driving force behind New York's alternative film culture from the 50s thru the 80s. Had column on Film in The Village Voice and also is credited with starting Film Culture magazine. He taught at a number of institutions including New York University and the New School for Social Research. Had role in founding Anthology Film Archives, New York and The Film-Makers Co-op (the major distribution center for independent film).
