National currency of Jordan - roughly worth a British pound, or US $1.40. It is broken up into 100ths, called qirsh or piasters, as dollars are, but it is also broken up into 1000ths called fils which are roughly equal to the dinars of other Arab countries to help tourists from there, so 10 fils = 1 qirsh. For 1JD and 500 fils there is a choice between notes and coins: for amounts more than this only notes exist, and for amounts less than this only coins exist. Because buying is done by bartering, you don't accumulate too many different bits of money anyway - compared with the United States where things cost $11.13 and you end up with tonnes. Also, credit cards are used less.
