1980s New Wave songstress whose near-hit "Johnny, Are You Queer?" was one of the high points from the film Valley Girl. Cotton's music was very much in the vein of the girl groups of the 1960s (especially the Shangri-La's), swinging from bright, bubbly, guitar-driven California pop to the depths of teen heartbreak. To the best of my knowledge her work is not available on CD at this time, but if you can possibly get your hands on a copy of Convertible Music, do so.
