A Judge advocate is a lawyer in the US Military. A judge advocate works for the Office of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) which is curious in that the same office provides both the prosecution and defense. To become a judge advocate, one needs to graduate from an ABA-accredited law school and pass a state or federal bar examination. Judge advocates enter the military as first lieutenants. Judge advocates practice in military, state and federal courts.
