My mother-in-law, Joyce, passed away peacefully in her sleep last night. She had been living in our home for about one month. She was 83 years of age and not healthy. Then again, for her age and being a heavy smoker, she was probably beating the odds. My wife and I had brought her to our home because living alone had become a serious risk to her health. Yes, I see the irony in that statement. She had dementia and had been self medicating and ignoring personal hygiene. Joyce was a good house guest and I am grateful that my wife had the opportunity to spend quality time with her mother, albeit for a rather short time.
