a now defunct proprietary modem protocol created by Rockwell and Lucent Technologies. the purpose of the protocol was to enable the modem user to connect at 56,600 kilobits per second. However, the FCC did not allow higher voltage on phone lines, therefore speeds were limited to 53kbps. see x2 and v.90
