True Name of the Sovereign Mohawk Nation, a full member of the Haudenosaunee confederacy. Kanien'Kehaka translates to "People of the Flint". They were originally given the name Mohawk by the Algonquin, and this was then adopted by the Europeans, probably because it was easier to pronounce and spell.
