KA'DESH (consecrated, holy).
A city of the Israelites, situated at the southern end of their territory, according to Ezekiel 47:19, "the waters of Meribath-kadesh", between Tamar and the river of Egypt. According to Genesis 20:1, it was near Gerar. It was for a long time the camping ground of the tribes of Israel (Numbers 20:1; 27:14; 33:36; Deuteronomy 1:46). In Genesis 14:7, it is called En-mishpat, which means "fountain of judgement." Apparently this name was given it because the place was a seat of judgement for a time.
