Light Rapid Transit also exists in the former city of Scarborough, Ontario which is now part of the Megacity of Toronto.

In many cities, the R in LRT stands for Rail, thus making it Light Rail Transit. In North America, an above-ground regional rail system powered by an overhead power line is referred to as Light Rail. The trains used on such a system are called Light Rail Vehicles. This, however, is not to be confused with BRT, which is an abbreviation of Bus Rapid Transit.
