Once Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles, an early-60s girl group; as a trio
(Patti, Sarah Dash, Nona Hendryx), having lost Cindy Birdsong to The Supremes, they regrouped, with English manager Vicki Wickham, as LaBelle,
wearing odd post-psychedelic finery, and adding stuff like Gil Scott-Heron's "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" to their set. Biggest
hit: "Lady Marmalade", the bawdy-for-its-day slice of rockin' soul music. Patti's now a one-named diva and Friend of Oprah.
