Ladner

A town in British Columbia, part of Metro Vancouver, but south of Vancouver proper. Ladner is part of the corporation of Delta, which includes Tsawwassen as well. Ladner is very flat, and aside from some farmland and a really big McDonald's, is unexceptional in almost every regard. There's a mechanic in town who has witty sayings on his sign sometimes. That's about as exciting as Ladner gets. Ladner's neighbours are Surrey to the east, Tsawwassen to the south, and across the one of the branching channels of the mouth of the Fraser river, Richmond.

Among its other natural treasures is the George C Reifel bird sanctaury, located on Westham Island. This sanctaury is located along the migration route of many types of birds including bald eagles, snow geese, red winged blackbirds, and canada geese.

Located at the end of a rail line originating in the Peace River district of British Columbia, the Roberts Bank superport south of the town of Ladner is the main transit terminal for coal exported to Asia mined in the NE corner of BC. It is also one of the largest container ports in the world.

Ladner is also a good tourist stop. Much of the old village, built on fishing and farming, has been preserved. Taking a stroll down Delta Street, you will see many buildings dating from the turn of the 1900s. Many heritage houses also dot the flat landscape, including one housing La Belle Auberge; this French restaurant is consistently voted as one of the best eating establishments in Greater Vancouver.
