It should be noted that Larry McMurtry studied alongside of
Ken Kesey,
Robert Stone and
Ken Babbs at
Stanford University in 1960 (or so) where they all studied
creative writing under the tutelege of
Wallace Stegner.
He maintained a strong friendship with Kesey later on even though literally speaking they took quite different and novel (excuse the puns) paths.
