This is the lens equation connecting the distance between lens and oject/image to the focal length of the lens. It may also be used for curved mirrors.
1/u + 1/v = 1/f
ie. The reciprocal of the distance between lens and object, add the reciprocal of the distance between lens and image equals the reciprocal of the focal length.
