The main character in Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis trilogy. She awakes, 250 years after a world-smasher of a nuclear war on an alien ship populated by natural genetic engineers, the Oankali, who want to breed with humanity. She's tall and stubborn and has an eidetic memory, and is more than a little reluctant about her role in helping the other surviving humans adapt to life with the Oankali - she chooses to live among them and raise children with them, but still feels like she is betraying humanity in doing so.
