Prior to joining NPR, Wertheimer worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation in London.
She currently is a senior host of National Public Radio's newsmagazine All Things Considered and has over 29 years of reporting experience in the political arena.
She has been with NPR since 1971, serving as a congressional correspondent and political correspondent until 1989 when she accepted the host position with All Things Considered.
In 1992 she was awarded the American Women in Radio/TV award for a story on illegal abortion.
