In personal ads the expression "long walks on the beach" is a cliche. Yet there's a paradox, if a person desires this trait, won't their resulting mate be too sensitive to kill a spider or investigate a loud thump in the middle of the night? Therefore, they might be good for moonlit walks but wouldn't pass mustard on more important relationship checklist items.

This is also an example of something that sounds romantic but when put into practice often results in muppet hair, a small grain of sand in your shoe resulting in a large blister, and a very unromantic odor of salt spray. Unless you're a sailor and salt spray is akin to cologne.

All that said, going for a walk on the beach with someone you care for demonstrates that you value their time and you wouldn't rather be watching The Simpsons on TV. Turning it into a picnic scores even more points.
