After producing Episode 4 of Star Wars, Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, decided to go for a spin in his new Porsche. Being still used to the vast, plain desert on Tantooine, he immediately crashed into an oak tree. After the accident, Mark Hamill's head looked like a raspberry cake. After several surgical operations, a clearly visible scar ran across his face. In order to hide this change of appearance between Episode 4 and Episode 5, Luke Skywalker's face is at first cloaked (on the ice planet of Hoth). Then, Luke is attacked by this giant snow ice bear monster, or whatever it is called. The beast slaps his face hard, thus justifying Luke's scar.
