Democrat Congresswoman Representing California's 6th District

Lynn Woolsey was born on November 3, 1937, in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from the University of San Francisco with a B.S. in Human Resources and Organizational Behavior in 1981. She is the mother of four grown children. In the 1970’s she worked as a Human Resources Manager for a large high-tech manufacturer in Marin County. In 1984, Woolsey was elected to the Petaluma City Council where she served until her election to Congress in 1992.

Woolsey was the first ex-welfare mother to be elected to the US Congress. She had to go on public assistance to make ends meet and raise her three small children.

Woolsey is a member of the House Democratic leadership, she serves as a Deputy Whip, on the Democratic Steering Committee and as the Congressional Caucus' for Women's Issues Liaison to the Democratic Leadership. She is also chair of the Democratic Task Force on Children.

Lynn Woolsey is pro-choice, supports gun control, and increased focus on alternative and renewable fuel sources.
