An abbreviation for miles per gallon, an Imperial measure of fuel efficiency.

One mile per gallon of gasoline/petrol is around 0.425 km/L. Put another way, 1 km/L is around 2.35 MPG.

As a filename extension, .MPG usually refers to an MPEG-encoded video file.

It should be noticed that in Europe (metric Europe at least), we do not count in km/l , but in l/100 km, which takes an extra division (by the number op mpg's)/multiplication (*100) step for conversion.

Therefore one mpg equals 236 l/100km, and a consumption of 50 mpg gives 236/50 l/100km, or 4,72 l/100km
