A stick that is used to strike percussion instruments. The head of a mallet can be made of rubber, plastic, wrapped yarn, wood, felt, or metal. The various types are usable only on certain instruments. If you ever use brass mallets on a marimba or xylophone I will personally hunt you down and kill you.

A small maul with a short handle, -- used esp. for driving a tool, as a chisel or the like; also, a light beetle with a long handle, -- used in playing croquet.
