Why does the dentist inject my throat but my lip goes numb?

Reason: the nerve which supplies your lower teeth is enclosed in a canal inside your jaw bone. The anaesthetic solution cannot diffuse through the dense bone to numb this nerve and has to be given at the site before it enters the canal. This is at the back of your throat.
