Most people who know of
Martin Mull know him from his numerous television appearances - most notably as Roseanne's gay boss on
Roseanne. And though he's been in numerous films, television movies, TV series, and comedy specials -- I'll always consider Martin Mull as primarily a
musical comedy genius. His comedy albums include some of the funniest songs ever recorded. (The lyrics to one of his funnier songs are in the 2nd WU under
Men.)
Martin, on the other hand, would rather be known as an artist. He has a Masters degree in art from the Rhode Island School of Design, and has continued to paint and draw while making his name as an actor. His book, "Painting, Drawing and Words," is a collection of 10 years' worth of his graphic arts work. Martin has had exhibits at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and various galleries around the world.
As an actor his first break was on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. The strange, offbeat, late-night, adult sit-com/soap-opera. Martin played a self-righteous wife-beater until he ended up dead - impaled by an aluminum Christmas tree. Since then he has done over two dozen feature films, including Mrs. Doubtfire, "FM," "Serial," My Bodyguard and Mr. Mom.
Mull won a Writer's Guild Award and an ACE Award for the cable show, History of White People in America. In 2000 he was presented with the Ernie Kovacs Award.
Born in Chicago, Martin was raised in North Ridgeville, Ohio. He is married and has one daughter. Martin is a Cleveland Browns fan and has kicked field goals on David Letterman.
