Circa 1980. An attempt by New York City's WKTU-FM to regain its ratings footing against rhythm and blues powerhouse WBLS. Mastermixes were custom KTU-only remixes of top hit records, sort of a homogenized version of how a disco DJ might mix them; Shep Pettibone was the main man, but there were several other DJs, I think. Ratings success begat a Mastermixes LP or two, but the material was pretty old by then. Bad idea.

BLS ultimately triumphed in the ratings wars.
