A tradition or norm found in some cultures in which a newly married couple goes to live with the wife's parents (either in their house, or in the same village). This is often done in order for the husband to perform his bride service, after which the couple may move back to the house or village of the husband's family. Overall, patrilocal residence is much more common than matrilocal residence.

Sometimes called Uxorilocal residence.
