Merseyside Maritime Museum, situated in the historical Albert Dock with HM Customs and Excise National Museum, the Museum of Liverpool Life, and the Liverpool Tate Gallery, is IMHO the most interesting museum in Liverpool. If you visit Liverpool, you must visit this along with Liverpool Cathedral as it is fascinating, even to the non-nautically minded. It contains a hands-on experiment area for children, exhibitions about the history of Liverpool as a port, going through the slave trade, immigration and emmigration, and as a naval base.

It also has a whole floor dedicated to models of ships, especially those made to model the original designs. This area is probably the most striking of the whole museum, close to the exhibition on the Titanic and the Lusitania.

You may wish to see about some other NMGM museums.
