The new crown princess of Norway, Hoiby married Norway's Crown Prince Haakon on August 25, 2001. She was not herself royalty, making the marriage something of a Cinderella story. Interestingly, the princess had a four-year-old son, Marius, at the time of the wedding. Her son's father, to whom she was never married, has been convicted of drug possession, and the new princess herself has admitted to a wild, partying past.

Haakon lived with Hoiby for some time before the marriage, and the couple’s relationship stirred heated debate -- cohabitation and children out of wedlock are commonplace, but Norwegians generally have negative views about narcotics.
