A unique style of hot dog believed to have originated (oddly enough) in the city of Plattsburgh, NY. While this delicacy has been spotted in nearby Montreal, Canada, there are no known sightings in the state of Michigan. The bun used for this delicacy is similar to a hot dog bun, but is shaped more like a bowl, so as to better hold in its contents.

Typically, the hotdog is covered in onions, mustard, and the mysterious Michican sauce. While the precise recipe seems to vary, most seem to be similar to the following recipe presented to rec.food.recipes by a Plattsburgh native in October, '97.

  • 2lbs ground beef
  • 1 med can of v-8 juice ( 8-12 oz )
  • 1/2 cup ketsup
  • 1-2 Tbl dry mustard
  • 1 Tbl salt
  • 1 Tbl Pepper
  • 2-1/2-3 Tbl chili powder
  • 1 Tbl + 1 tsp minced garlic

If you pay a visit to Plattsburgh, skip the fast-food style Michigans Plus and have a classic michigan at either Clare & Carl's or Nitzi's restaurants.
