"Hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats", so goes the refrain of this classic children's book written and illustrated by Wanda Gag. The story is of a man who sets off to bring home a cat to keep his wife and him company, and ends up being trailed by hundreds, thousands, millions, billions and trillions of cats. When his wife points out that there is no way they can provide for so many cats no matter how pretty they all are they all are, the man has the cats decide amongst themselves who is the prettiest, and therefull who should get to stay. All the cats but one are destroyed in the resulting battle, as only one of all those cats did not want to claim the title of prettiest. Because of the repeated lines and the sing-song refrain make this a great read-aloud.
