In a work environment, the Mission Critical Data is the data that is absolutely imperative for your job. This data is usually backed up on a regular basis, or mirrored in some fashion, to ensure the safety of said data.

What is ironic is that the act of keeping Mission Critical Data safe usually impairs one's ability to use said data. Information that is absolutely imperative for the completion of a job is usually of a highly sensitive nature, and there is a desire to keep it secret, lest it be taken away or used against the person/institution who's job requires it.

Thus it becomes necessary to hide and lock up all that Mission Critical Data. This usually requires the assistance of a security specialist, and almost always results in a situation where the Data becomes more time-consuming and costly to access and utilize. The more valuable the information, the more we naturally cripple our own ability to use it.
