Mitomycin is yet another antibiotic, this one selectively prevents DNA synthesis without inhibitinmg RNA and protein synthesis. Researchers think this is caused by the cross-linking of the double stranded DNA and strand breakage. However, a natural defense mechanism is already in place, the so-called SOS response (think about delay of cell division, release of temperate phages, induced synthesis of repair enzymes, etc.).
It also appears to interfere with plasmids (extra-chromosomal DNA elements), and therefore used in research with bacterial cells to remove its activity.

The name strongly suggest that this antibiotic disrups or prevents the mitosis though. Anyway, I'll add more info if I can find it.
