A nonstandard, unsupported or "tweaked" VGA mode made popular by a series of articles by Abrash in Dr. Dobbs Journal. This video mode supported 256 colors at 320x240 displayed pixels. It was used by practically every graphics intensive game in the early to mid 90s, including Wolfenstein, Doom and a host of others. One of the primary benefits, besides the increased resolution from the standard 13h VGA mode (320x200), is the fact that Mode X supports 3 display pages, and square pixels.
