Moe's Tavern is the local bar where Homer Simpson spends a great deal of his time on the TV show, The Simpsons. The bar is owned and operated by Moe Szyslak. It is not usually a very successful business as it only has three regulars and is rarely crowded. The bar does have periods of prosperity, however. It drew crowds when the tavern sold the Flaming Moe drink, when the Red Hot Chili Peppers played there, and when it was briefly converted into a restaurant called Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag.
Homer certainly contributes to the modest revenue of the bar, but Barney Gumble seems to be the heaviest drinking patron. One wonders, however, whether Barney purchases as much beer as he steals.
The beer of choice at Moe's Tavern, and indeed in Springfield, is Duff Beer. The neighboring town of Shelbyville prefers Fudd Beer, but nobody at Moe's would be caught drinking that crap. Once, when Homer came into some money, Moe tried to pass off Springfield's favorite ale as a fancy imported beer that he pronounced "Doof" by placing an umlaut over the "u" on the word "Duff."
Once or twice on the show Moe's Tavern had been likened to the famous Cheers bar. Many historic events in Springfield have happened at Moe's Tavern. For instance the last concert of the Be Sharps occurred there. All in all, Moe's Tavern is an integral part of The Simpsons' life in Springfield.
