In the movie
Dark City, the leader of
the Strangers, as unusually distinguishedly played by
Ian Richardson. Meets an untimely end when the parasite in his head animating his reclaimed human corpse encounters a water tower and, well,
explodes.
Up until that point in the movie, the explosion tally was pretty low and studio accountants are sticklers about exactly what kind of and how many pyrotechnic special effects sequences should be in a sci-fi movie...
Previous to the soggy demise, however, he faces off in a quasi-Scanners psychic / telekinetic duel with John Murdoch, destroying much of the Strangers' underground lair in the process.
