On
Sesame Street, Mr. Handford bought
Hoopers Store from
David (
Northern Calloway) and ran it from 1990 to 1998 when he sold it to
Alan. There was a running joke where
Snuffy and Alice often got his name wrong and called him
Mr. Handfoot, shades of
Bid Bird and "
Mr. Looper".
Mr. Handford is a retired firefighter, first played by some actor whose name I don't know for one season and then by David Langston Smyrl until leaving in 1998. The second one was by far the better.
