Your silence sits with you on the front porch
as usual, you are alone but in plain sight

Later, when you reluctantly agree to drive me home
you will turn the radio up very loud
intending, I suppose
to drown out attempts at conversation

I would invite you in but
you might agree to stay the night
only to spend the next week leaving me
cryptic voice messages about involvement

I prefer being the one leaving words this week.
