A mycosis is a fungal infection. Fungi get around a lot, and have been known to infect everything from birds to oysters. The best known mycoses in humans are athlete's foot or Tinea pedis, jock itch or Tinea cruris, vaginal yeast infections, and Tinea unguium or ringworm of the toenails. Fungal infections of the skin generally aren't serious, but subcutaneous mycoses can be (occasionally even leading to gangrene), and fungi that get to the major internal organs are often deadly.
