Actually Windows boxes do have names, which Windows asks you for upon install; or it can be changed using the network icon in the control panel (also by right clicking on the network neighborhood icon and slecting properties). Now although this name may not be as fascinating as my box's name, which is "drheimlich", it has a name all the same. This name is *usually* meant for Windows Networking to display the computers on a workgroup or domain when using the Network Neighborhood feature. It also can be used to get log on to a specific network such as how the @home cable modem service works. By using a computer name it gives the user a specific IP address (but they tried to scare me by saying it's DHCP). Keep in mind I can not stand Windows and I believe the boxen do not have souls like my Linux box , but it does have a name.
